Starting life in the US as Marketing Trademark Consultants, MTC (UK) Ltd was acquired in 1992 operating as a licensing agency representing the IP rights of designers, corporate brands and kids/entertainment properties.
In late 1992 we started our foray into sport through our first Olympic Gold medallist – and became the first agency to recognise the potential in marketing Olympic talent long before 2012 changed the talent landscape so dramatically.
The business has always bucked the perception of sports management, maintaining longstanding and trusted relationships with its partners as well as clients, many who have been with MTC for over 20 years.
MTC now enters a new, dynamic phase with a platform built on creating TV shows, producing live stage shows, publishing bestselling books and representing the most decorated, award winning talent.
Recognised as one of the most respected and knowledgeable operators in the sports marketing industry for some years now, Jonathan saw the immense potential in Olympic stars a decade before the London 2012 pitch document was even in draft form.
Enjoying a 10-year career in manufacturing and retail with Marks & Spencer, Jonathan was responsible for ground breaking significant licensing arrangements with US sports brands, designers and entertainment properties. His approach to management reflected an honest and results driven focus based on long term partnerships and he has never lost his passion for developing products – these days’ books and sportswear.
He has developed an unrivalled contact base throughout the sport marketing family, has created and commissioned TV formats for CBBC, brokered some of the most significant deals in professional cycling and sports publishing, and been responsible for the media and commercial careers of many of the biggest names in British sport.
He would hope his epitaph would include breaking the clichéd views of sports management but hopes that his four children Leo, Charlotte, Joey and Gabriel will pursue proper careers when they grow up… and that Manchester’s real team, City, remain a dominant force, in Manchester at least.
Having Interned at MTC in September 2016 and then gone away to travel the globe, Will couldn’t quite shake the feeling that he had left ‘home’ behind. With a degree in English Literature from the University of York, he is responsible for client liaison and logistics, support on publishing developments and corporate sales as well as the management of MTCs intern programme.
As a winner of The Telegraph’s Tennis Future sponsorship at the age of five and drawfuls of gold medals won at Athletics, Football and Swimming throughout his childhood, Will can claim some empathy with sporting talent. Unfortunately, his sporting fame was curtailed by injury, not to mention a lack of sufficient talent. However, the passion, interest and enthusiasm for sport remains and he is driven to work in an industry that remains special to him.
Having grown up in the North West before moving abroad, Will has remained an avid Liverpool FC supporter. Nothing provides greater pleasure than tempering the office’s unhealthy affiliation with the Blue side of Manchester.
Joanne joined MTC as Office Manager in 2017.
Joanne worked in Investment Banking for over a decade, including working at Morgan Stanley and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, working her way up from team assistant to PA for a team head. Joanne took a career break after having her second child. However, this career break included completing a BA (Hons) Humanities degree with the Open University. After graduating she decided that she wanted to get back into the world of work, however, she wanted to use all her skills and experience in a different industry.
Now an integral part of the team at MTC, Joanne manages HR, administration, credit control (and Jonathan!) Out of the office Joanne enjoys travelling, music, going to the gym and of course spending time with her family.
